B:        Mary Jane ROBINSON (4) (Charlotte Letitia McCutcheon-3; Samuel McCutcheon-2; Samuel McCutcheon-1) was born in Mulmur Township, Dufferin County was born on the 28th February 1853 and she died on the 9th July 1886.  She was buried at the Mulmur Pioneer Cemetery.  She married Robert ARMSTRONG (1852 – 26th April 1926 Edmonton, Alberta) on the 5th July 1876 in Rosemont Township, Simcoe County.  His parents were Michael Armstrong and Elizabeth Ewing.  ♣♣

~CHILDREN OF MARY JANE ROBINSON AND ROBERT ARMSTRONG WERE~

  • Charlotte L ARMSTRONG (5) was born in 1879 in Mulmur Township, Dufferin County.*
  • M S ARMSTRONG (5) was born in 1883 in Mulmur Township, Dufferin County.*
  • Robert A H ARMSTRONG (5) was born in 1885 in Mulmur Township, Dufferin County.*

NOTE:   Mary Jane was raised by her Uncle William McCutcheon and Anna Smith.

*Charlotte, M.S. and Robert were all very young when their mother died at the age of 33 years old.  Two years after their mother died, Robert married Mary Jane’s first cousin, Isabella McCutcheon on the 5th December 1888.  Robert Armstrong married 2 grand-daughters:  first a grand-daughter of Samuel McCutcheon (1772 – 1828) and the great-grand-daughter to Samuel’s brother John McCutcheon (1770-1827).  Robert then sires 7 more children with his second wife, Isabella.  All of his children become ½ brothers and sisters to their first cousins, 2 x removed; at the same time.  The same applies to Isabella’s children, the HILLS.  The Hills become ½ brothers and sisters to their first cousins.  Confusing?  Yes.

The last record I find for these three children on the 1891 census of Canada, living with their new Step mother.  Then they disappear from view.  They do not migrate west to Edmonton with the menagerie of a family that this family became.  This family became a situation of “yours, mine and ours” with children from Isabella’s previous marriage to James Walter HILL.  On the 1891 census there were a total of ten children in the house; 4 were hers, 3 were his and 3 were theirs.

The rest of their ½ brothers and sisters can be found in Chapter 6 –  E: William (1829-1872).

Robert and Isabella by 1911 were divorced.

♣♣        Cousins married cousins:  In this case, two brothers, William James and his brother Robert Armstrong, married two cousins:  William married Charlotte McCutcheon who was descendant from the Samuel McCutcheon line:  his brother, Robert married 2 cousins; 1st he married Mary Jane Robinson, also descendant from the Samuel McCutcheon line; 2nd to Isabella McCutcheon descendant from the John McCutcheon line.  Samuel and John were brothers.
